If you’ve felt stretched thin lately, you’re not alone. Between workplace pressure, personal responsibilities, and the weight of everything happening around us, July can feel like a lot. I know what it’s like to try and be everything to everyone while still hoping to protect your own peace.

June was an intense month for me, packed with online and face-to-face training sessions, all while managing a major patio demolition and caring for my furry and feathered family. The constant noise, dust, and endless decisions were a personal reminder that without space to pause, burnout creeps in quietly. July was quieter workwise, but mentally I still felt like I was catching my breath.

One thing I’m excited to share: I’m working on a new range of digital resources for Complex PTSD and workplace de-stressing. A big thank you to those who completed the course feedback survey. It was clear many of you are craving support in those areas, and I’m creating these tools with your real-world needs in mind.

And if you were wondering where June’s newsletter went… you’re not imagining things. It didn’t go out. I ran out of hours, and instead of rushing something out, I decided to wait and send you something more grounded and useful now. Thank you for sticking around.

I hope something in this month’s edition helps you exhale a little deeper and feel just a bit more supported in your own corner of the world.

Monthly Podcast Recommendation

Podcast of the Month: The Mental Illness Happy Hour

This month, I wanted to share a podcast that really stands out for honest and meaningful conversations about mental health. The Mental Illness Happy Hour, hosted by comedian Paul Gilmartin, features raw, compassionate interviews about trauma, addiction, anxiety and recovery.

I’ve listened to several episodes recently and appreciate how it brings humour, empathy and real-life storytelling together in a way that feels safe and deeply human. Whether you work in mental health or just want to better understand these challenges, this podcast offers a perspective that is both relatable and supportive.

Monthly Book Recommendation

This month, I’ve been revisiting Flow by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. It’s a classic that explores how we find deep focus, purpose, and genuine satisfaction in what we do. It’s practical and research-based, showing how “flow states” can turn everyday tasks into deeply engaging experiences.

If you’ve felt unmotivated, scattered, or disconnected lately, this book offers clear strategies for reclaiming focus and designing activities that challenge and fulfil you. It’s a reminder that mental wellbeing isn’t just about managing stress, but about finding your flow in work, hobbies, and daily life.

Celebrating June/July MHFAiders

I usually deliver Mental Health First Aid training online, but in June I was delighted to run face-to-face Standard MHFA courses for 23 participants across Busselton in South Western Australia and Perth Metro. Thank you to everyone who dedicated almost 30 hours across both groups and sessions to learning, reflecting and discussing how to better support those around you.

A big well done also to all my online participants who have now achieved national accreditation for the next three years. Your willingness to show up, learn and lead with empathy is so valuable.

Is Your MHFA or Youth MHFA Accreditation About to Expire?

Mental-Health-First-Aid-Certification Duration-overview

If your Standard Mental Health First Aid or Youth MHFA accreditation is nearing expiry, I offer both refresher courses online every single week. You can join from anywhere in Australia.

If you’re based in Perth and would prefer these courses delivered face-to-face, I can work with you to ensure a session can be offered at your workplace.

Mental Health First Aid Australia has a strict minimum of six participants per class. I really appreciate your flexibility if your chosen date needs to be rescheduled.

Most of you already know how flexible I am too. If your accreditation is about to expire and numbers drop below six, I’ll do everything I can to still deliver the session for you.

June/July Reflections

Willow

Until Next Time…

Whether you’re charging forward or quietly surviving, I hope this edition gave you a moment to slow down and feel seen. Healing, learning and unlearning don’t happen in neat, linear ways, and you don’t have to do any of it perfectly.

As always, I’m here if you want to share what’s been on your mind or what topics you’d like me to cover next. Just reply to this email or drop me a note at dal@dalsahota.com.

Take what you need, leave the rest, and don’t forget to breathe. You’re doing better than you think.

From me, Willow (who insists on being the centre of attention), Freddie (who prefers a quiet life), and the bossy chickens (who chase me daily for snacks), wishing you a bit more peace and softness wherever you are.

Have a Lovely Month of August!
