What this training makes possible

Real skills, used the moment they are needed

The point of Mental Health First Aid is not the certificate. It is what your people do when a colleague is quietly struggling. One participant described what happened at work within days of training with Dal.

★★★★★
"Within days of completing this course, I was alerted to some difficulties that a young colleague was having. He had recently finished his apprenticeship and is due to become a dad in a few months. The reality of what life will be in a few months really weighed heavily on his thoughts and he was really struggling. After I was alerted to this, I immediately called on the training that I was fortunate enough to have been given by Dal Sahota. Due to the training that Dal provided me, I was able to provide support and assistance to him. This course gave me the confidence to listen and assess what assistance we, as the employer, could offer him specifically, and others generally. I was able to refer the young man to the company doctor who has provided access to other support services and make other adjustments at work for him. I hope that in the coming days and months that this early intervention will help this young man and he will embrace fatherhood and the joys that provides. Dal is a wonderful instructor, we covered a lot of info but it never felt rushed and each sub-topic was given adequate coverage. Thank you Dal with special mention to Sophie, Dave and Spence, my fellow trainees."

Course content

What your team will learn

The course teaches participants how to recognise and respond to the mental health problems most commonly experienced by adults, and how to provide first aid in a mental health crisis until professional help is available or the crisis resolves.

Recognising and supporting

  • Depression and anxiety problems
  • Psychosis
  • Substance use problems
  • How to have a safe, non-judgemental conversation and encourage appropriate professional help

Responding in a crisis

  • Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
  • Non-suicidal self-injury
  • Panic attacks and traumatic events
  • Severe effects of substance use and severe psychotic states

The course also covers the boundaries of the Mental Health First Aider role, so participants always understand where first aid ends and professional care begins. Because the day is delivered privately to your group, the scenarios and referral pathways can be shaped around the real situations your people encounter.

Your educator

Every in-person course is delivered personally by Dal Sahota, an MHFA Australia Licensed Instructor, Clinical Hypno-Psychotherapist and Principal Master Mental Health Educator who has trained thousands of people worldwide. Dal brings years of clinical practice into every day of training, which means questions are answered from real therapeutic experience, and sensitive topics are handled with genuine clinical care.

★★★★★
"Dal is an exceptional psychotherapist and mental health trainer. Her sessions are surprisingly versatile where she not only tailors her training style to accommodate trainees of different backgrounds but also gently challenges learners to enhance their learning skills and comprehension. She also balances her sessions with equal amount of instruction and group discussions, thereby allowing the learners to grasp and apply what they have learnt as soon as possible. I highly recommend making the most of her expertise and experience."

"Dal is a very competent and confident trainer. I felt comfortable from the moment I walked into the class. She was very up front around the boundaries of the way the teaching was going to be presented from the start of the class. She was very easy to talk to and easy to approach and very kind, gentle and approachable. She made sure everyone was confident in the section we were learning about before moving on to the next. I highly recommend Dal for your mental health trainee needs. I do now feel very confident in how to be a mental health first aider for if and when and situation arrives. Thank you Dal"

"I attended a 2-day Standard Mental Health First Aid course facilitated by Dal. Dal was incredibly knowledgeable, professional and engaging. She allowed room for us to explore the topics covered but kept everyone on track during sessions, as well as consistently reminding us of the limits of the First Aider role - which was so beneficial to understand. I will recommend Dal to peers and look forward to engaging in her other resources."

"I had the absolute pleasure of attending the 2 day MHFA training with Dal as the facilitator. Her approach to informing and assisting the development of my confidence, understanding and totality of the impact of being able to hold a conversation with someone experiencing a poor mental health episode was amazing. Dal's empathetic yet commanding tone and ability to humanise her experience at appropriate moments made the delivery of the course fly by. I would totally recommend anyone wanting to develop their Mental Health First Aid to attend one of Dal's sessions. Thanks so much Dal. :)"

"The two day course for mental health first aid was incredibly informative and helpful for providing help to anyone who may be under mental distress but only because of Dal presenting it. Without the activities and exercises she provided the group throughout the course, only a fraction of the information would have sunk in. Dal's unwavering support throughout and careful checking in through the tough topics was nothing short of impressive. Highly recommend Dal for anyone considering the course!"

The accessible, proven alternative

Not ready for a private in-person day? Train online instead

The in-person course is deliberately limited. For individuals, smaller teams and organisations spread across the country, Dal's online courses deliver the same accredited Standard-level training with the same clinical depth, at an accessible per-person price. Participants consistently describe the online delivery as engaging and genuinely effective.

★★★★★
"I have just completed the Mental Health training with Dal this morning. I found the online component prior to the face-to-face sessions to be in-depth, covering topics such as anxiety, depression, psychosis, and alcohol and drug use. This provided a strong foundation and prepared me well for the two days of face-to-face online training with Dal. Dal is very knowledgeable and took the time to answer all of my questions. I also enjoyed participating in breakout rooms, which gave me the opportunity to connect and discuss ideas with other participants. I highly recommend Dal and the Mental Health training program."
