Refresher courses are available for individuals that have completed a full 2-day Mental Health First Aid® face-to-face course or a Blended or Blended Online Mental Health First Aid course, followed by the completion of an accreditation assessment within the last 3 years.

Refresher courses currently available include:

Online

  • 5-hour Standard Mental Health First Aid Refresher Course

Face-to-face

  • 4-hour Standard Mental Health First Aid Refresher Course

Frequently asked questions

Am I eligible to enrol in a Refresher Course?

You are eligible for a refresher course if you have accredited as an MHFAider within the last three years.

Login to your MHFA™ account here to check your accreditation expiry date and access your Certificate of Accreditation. Please provide this certificate to the Instructor delivering the Refresher course so they can check your eligibility to attend.

Upon completion of your Refresher Course, you can attempt another accreditation assessment to extend your accreditation by a further 3 years.

I am coordinating Refresher Course attendance for my organisation. How do I verify if my group of attendees are all eligible to complete a Refresher Course?

Course attendees will need to log into their account here to verify their accreditation expiry date. Individuals can download a copy of their accreditation certificate if they completed the assessment which will verify their eligibility to complete a Refresher Course.

It is the responsibility of course participants to be aware of their accreditation status with MHFA prior to attending a Refresher Course. It is also recommended that course organisers verify the eligibility of all course participants prior to attending a Refresher Course or booking an Instructor for course delivery.

If an ineligible person attends a Refresher Course, they will not be able to attempt the accreditation assessment. The onus is on individual course participants to verify their accreditation status prior to attendance.

What if I completed a 2-day Mental Health First Aid Course in the last 3 years but did not complete the accreditation assessment?

The accreditation assessment is able to be accessed for up to 3 years after you complete the course so, if it is still within this timeframe, please email us at mhfa@mhfa.com.au to request for your unique link to be re-sent to you. If it has been longer than 3 years since you attended a full course, you will be unable to attempt the accreditation assessment without completing a further full course.

I attended a Refresher Course but have been advised that I am ineligible to re-accredit. What can I do?

Confirming eligibility to re-accredit is the responsibility of the individual, not the instructor running the Refresher course. To receive a Certificate of Accreditation, you will need to attend a 2-day face-to-face or Blended course.

Which Refresher Course should I complete?

Accredited MHFAiders should complete the same type of Refresher Course as their original 12-14 hour Mental Health First Aid course or equivalent (as shown in the table half way down the page here) to renew their accreditation.

I have already completed a Refresher course. Can I complete another Refresher Course?

Three years after completing a Refresher Course, MHFAiders will need to attend a full 12 or 14-hour MHFA course in order to maintain their accreditation.

Login to your MHFA account here to check your accreditation expiry date and access your Certificate of Accreditation. Please provide this certificate to the Instructor delivering the Refresher course so they can check your eligibility to attend.

What if I completed my full Mental Health First Aid Course more than 3 years ago?

If it has been longer than 3 years since you attended the course, you can still attend a Refresher course for the purposes of refreshing your knowledge, however, you will be unable to attempt the accreditation assessment and ineligible to obtain a Certificate of Accreditation upon completion. To receive a Certificate of Accreditation, you will need to attend another full 2-day face-to-face, Blended or Blended Online course.
